Andrea Gandolfo
Board President

Andrea (or ‘Anni' as she is known at the Clubs) is an Investment Counselor and Senior Vice President at Bailard investment firm. She has also served on the Board of Directors for Covenant Children's Center and has volunteered in the Palo Alto Unified School District where her daughters attend school. She holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from CSUC. Andrea became involved with the Clubs after attending several Club events, and she says that the experience of getting to know many of the youth of the Clubs and working with the staff has provided her with great joy and sincere dedication to the Club's mission.

Carlos Bolanos
Board Member

Carlos was born and raised in San Francisco where he attended the Columbia Park Boy's Club as a youth.  Carlos has been in law enforcement for 31 years, currently serving as the Undersheriff of San Mateo County.  Carlos also served as Police Chief of Redwood City for 13 years where he played a leadership role in youth programs, notably the Police Activities League.  Carlos has been married to Kim for 30 years, and together they have three children ages 22 to 29.  Carlos has a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Master's degree in Public Administration.


Amy Boyle

Board Member

Native to the Bay Area and graduate of San Jose State University, Amy and her husband have lived in Menlo Park for the past 23 years.  As a former Graphic Designer, Amy is now a full-time community volunteer and homemaker raising their three children ages 7, 14 and 19.  Her other volunteer activities include Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Children's Heath Council, church, and local public schools.

 


Barry Carr

Board Member

Barry Carr is a founding partner of Carr & Ferrell LLP , a Silicon Valley leading technology law firm, where he is the co-chairman of the firm's Corporate & Securities Practice Group.  He has been recognized by San Jose Magazine as one of Silicon Valley's top corporate lawyers for five consecutive years and by Bay Area Lawyer Magazine as one of the top three venture capital lawyers in the Bay Area. Barry is an avid sports fan (supporting most of the local teams, but especially his beloved Cal Bears) and loves golf (now that his knees have forced his retirement from competitive basketball) and reading novels.  Barry lives in Portola Valley with his wife and youngest son (Grant) and has two older sons attending college.  He has served on the Board of Directors since 2001.

 


Nina Demmon

Board Member

Nina was born in Bronxville, NY and is a graduate of Vassar College. She and her husband Roy moved to California in 1957 with their 9 month old baby girl. Very active in her new community, Nina has volunteered and served with several local organizations over the years including the Speech and Hearing Clinic in Stanford , the Sequoia YMCA, the Junior League of Palo Alto and the Children's Health Council. With four children, Nina has also spent many hours involved in PTA, Little League, Sunday School and other activities. She was drawn to the Clubs because of her interest in children and education, and says it is a wonderful feeling to be involved in an organization you really believe in.

David Doolin
Board Member

Dave is a partner at the CPA firm of Petrinovich Pugh & Company in San Jose. Prior to that he was the controller at a manufacturing company and worked for the international accounting firm of KPMG, LLP. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo with a degree in Economics and also serves as the Chair of the Finance Committee for the Menlo Country Club. David was born and raised in Menlo Park where he now lives with his wife, Dana. He was first introduced to the Clubs by fellow Board Member Patrick Goodenough, and says it only took one trip to get him hooked.

 

Cathy Friedman-Duane

Board Member

Cathy Friedman Duane is currently a consultant and Board member to Life Sciences companies public and private. She spent 23 years as an investment banker prior to her new career. She has been married to Jon Duane for over 20 years and is the mother of 6 children ages 7 to 17. She is dedicated to improving education for all children which has her spending her "spare time' on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club and on the Board of her children's school Sacred Heart Schools Atherton.

 


Patrick Goodenough
Board Member

Patrick was born in England and emigrated to Canada to the United States during World War II. He was primarily educated in Canada and received a degree from McGill University in 1951. He became involved with the Boys and Girls Club 25 years ago and has served many of those years on the Board as well as a volunteer in the teen art program at Redwood City. He currently is mentoring four teenage youths aiding them in the transition from Community College to University level enrollment. He was initially introduced to the Club by a Board Member in 1985.

 

 

 


Tracy Koon
Board Member

Tracy Koon started her career as a college professor, teaching Modern European History at UC Riverside and the University of Virginia. After moving from academe, she spent 23 years at Intel Corporation in a variety of positions including stints as Director of Intel University and of Corporate Communications. Tracy retired in July of 2006 to devote her energies to three things of great importance to her: kids, animals and crosswords. She is one of a rare breed, a California native.

 

 

 


Dennis Lenehan
Board Member

Dennis was born and raised in New York City, and received his Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Detroit. He spent thirty years in the semiconductor industry, mostly a Intel where he worked in various capacities including as an engineer, manufacturing manager, and general manager. Dennis came to the Clubs as a volunteer in 1997and joined the Board in 2002. He is currently very active as a volunteer in our College Bound Program. Now retired, his interests outside the Club include photography and travel, especially in Asia. He and his wife Alex have one son, Erik, and live in the Los Altos Hills.

 

 


Matthew Mayerson
Board Member

Matt is Vice President of Manufacturing & Distribution of Oracle Corporation. He is responsible for the worldwide replication and fulfillment for all Oracle software and education products. Prior to joining Oracle in 1990, Mr. Mayerson held various operations positions with Ernst & Young and Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corporation. Mr. Mayerson is a member of the board of directors of the Oracle Education Foundation. He received a Bachelor's degree in business economics and an MBA from UCLA. He has volunteered countless hours mentoring at the Club.

Milbrey McLaughlin
Board Member

Milbrey is the David Jacks Professor of Education and Public Policy at Stanford University. She is also the Co-Director of the Center for Research on the Context of Teaching, and founding Director of the John W. Gardner Center for Youth and Their Communities. She is the co-author of several books, articles and chapters on education policy issues, contexts for teaching and learning, productive environments for youth, and community-based organizations. She says she was drawn to the Club because it was one of the most effective organizations she has encountered in her research.

 

 


Jake Reynolds

Anita Shrigley
Board Member

Anita holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education, and taught elementary school in Texas, Turkey, Germany, Okinawa, Tustin and Saratoga CA before becoming a full-time mom. She is extremely proud that both of her daughters also now hold teaching credentials and work in education or human services. Anita became involved at the Club when her daughter and friend Connie Heldman were tutoring there. She went on to take over the Reading Wizards program from Connie and ran it untill moving to Scotland for two years. Upon her return, Anita joined the Club's Board of Directors and is excited to reengage with the kids.

 

 

 


Barbara Silverman
Board Member

Barbara was first introduced to the Clubs by Mervin Morris, Stuart Moldaw and Patrick Goodenough. She was inspired to see so many children engaged in different and enriching activities they might not otherwise have access to. Barbara had previously been on the Board of the Children's Health Council. She received her B.A. from U.C. Berkeley, and a Master's Degree after working several years in the real estate market and prior to that teaching elementary school.

 

 

 


Matthew Sonsini
Board Member

Matt is the Chief Operating Officer for the Sobrato Organization, a commercial property group in Silicon Valley. Matt previously spent seven years as a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, P.C., a law firm advising technology and growth enterprises worldwide, as well as the investment banks and venture capital firms that finance them. Matt graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College in 1988, and he earned his J.D. degree from the Boalt Hall School of Law at University of California, Berkeley. “ Our community's children are our future, and the Club, more than any organization I know, serves the less advantaged among our children to protect that future.”

 

 


John Straubel
Board Member

John currently directs his own freelance marketing and communications agency, Straubel Communications. Prior to founding his own agency, John served ten years as Communications Director for Hiller Aircraft Corporation, and later for Fairchild Hiller Corporation. A native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, he holds a B.S. Degree from Northwestern University, and was a ship's officer in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. John came to the Club to help bridge the opportunity gap in our community. In addition to his work on the Board, he also volunteers as a writing tutor, which he says keeps him young.

 

 

 


Dana Weintraub
Board Member

Dr. Dana Weintraub is a Clinical Instructor in the Division of General Pediatrics at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford.  She received an A.B. in History from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH and her M.D. from University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA. 

Dr. Weintraub is Medical Director of the Peninsula Family Advocacy Program, a collaboration with Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County to bring free legal aid services to families served by LPCH and affiliated clinics and the Ravenswood Family Health Center.  She is also Project Director of SPORT, a community-based evaluation of after school team sports as a weight control intervention for overweight children in East Palo Alto, CA.

 

 


Marcia Wythes
Board Member

Marcia was born in Shanghai, China, raised in Hawaii, went to the University of Washington and the University of Geneva in Switzerland before settling in California.  She has been married for a good many years, and has three children and eight grandchildren.  She began non-profit work in her single days, volunteering for the Children's Hospital in San Francisco before moving to the Peninsula and becoming involved as a volunteer with the Children's Health Council.  Since then, Marcia has served on various boards including Planned Parenthood, Children's Health Council and the YMCA. The BGCP mission continues to be very important to her and she truly enjoys working with the impressive staff and board.
