INVEST IN THE BARRY CARR SPORTS LEAGUES

The Barry Carr Sports Leagues (BCSL) aims to provide all students in our community access to sports and the benefits that accompany sports participation. We strive:

  • to provide additional program opportunities for our students to complement our academic and career readiness support.

  • to build community by bringing together students and families around sports

  • to utilize sports to teach skills that transcend the playing field such as resilience, collaboration, conflict resolution and leadership (making those around them better)

Support of BCSL will make a greater impact as BGCP expands our athletics programs to reach across San Mateo County, from Daly City to East Palo Alto. When we launched the Barry Carr Sports Leagues (BCSL) in Fall 2021, our goal was to dramatically boost the number of BGCP students participating in high-quality, competitive sports programming, which is often out of reach for our students and their families. We wanted to leverage sports to help bring students back “into the building” to reconnect with our programs following the pandemic. In BCSL’s first year, 790 students benefited from playing basketball, volleyball, soccer and flag football.

In the BCSL’s second year, word about the fun and competitive leagues spread, and 2,695 students—from kindergarten through high school—actively participated!
