Future Grads
Future Grads is a college counseling program for first-generation BGCP high school students. As a Future Grads College Coach, your role is to provide support through the college application process for your mentee/s. Senior year deadlines are fast and furious. Students often need another caring adult (in addition to Future Grads staff) to help them persevere. This opportunity is a great fit for a volunteer looking to make a deep impact.
We are seeking coaches who are passionate about supporting a first-generation college student and can be their cheerleader through the process. The beauty of the role is that you do not need to be an expert, just willing to learn and keep your mentee/s accountable. The biggest thing we are looking for is time commitment, as this is a year-long opportunity where coaches meet weekly with students for at least an hour per student.

Support students in researching and applying to the best-fit colleges
Help edit college and scholarship essays
Support their college application and financial aid process
Help to ease student anxieties about being able to "make it" in college
Program Outline
We ask Future Grads College Coaches to make a one-year commitment
Begins in June of each year
Coaches can expect to spend 1-2 hours per week for one year working with their High School Senior students, though some weeks could be heavier/lighter
Meeting times are flexible; students and Coaches will find the best days and times to connect (typically 4pm-8pm)
BGCP supports Future Grads College Coaches through Coach Academies: monthly informational meetings that keep coaches informed on senior year deadlines, and will consist of training for coaches to be best equipped to support students
Although the year-long commitment may seem daunting, the results are most gratifying and worth the time.
Please note: Per BGCA and BGCP guidelines, all Future Grads Coaches must complete yearly compliance requirements to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. These include a background check with the FBI/DOJ, mandated reporter and sexual- harassment training, and a valid TB test.
